What People Are Saying

Skylodge was beyond our wildest dreams. It surpassed any travel experience we’ve ever done before. Our guides made us feel completely safe and at ease and the climb itself was incredible. Felt safe the entire time and was able to stop and enjoy the views. The pods were very warm and cozy despite being windy and cold outside and the meals prepared were exceptional considering the location! Would love to do again.

Just as fun, unique, and special as I’d hoped! The pods are clean and comfortable, and of course the view is unbeatable. The climb was so enjoyable, and the guides were professional and helpful. Ziplining down was a great way to top it all off. Oh, and the kitchen/dining pod was even better than expected. If you’re thinking about it, you won’t regret it!

Stalking at the Skylodge was one of the highlights of our trip to Peru. It was such a unique experience and we were both glad we were able to do it. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful and really made the experience that much more enjoyable. The climb up to the pods felt challenging at times but definitely worth it. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the pods themselves were great. Zip lining down the mountain in the morning was awesome. If you get a chance to do this, DO IT!! They book out well in advance so make this one of the first things you book.

Marina Bay Sands

Towering over the Marina Bay Harbor, Marina Bay Sands resort is quite the sight to see. The resort includes a casino and honestly is a mini one-stop-shop. There are restaurants, shopping spas, a theater, science and art exhibits, and more all within it’s grounds. Three towers are connected via a”sky park”, which is 1,120 feet long and has swimming pools, gardens, and a jogging path. Maybe the most infamous view from the resort, is atop the sky park at the infinity pool. While the resort may have everything you need there, be sure to explore the city of Singapore as well!

Once a trading hub for the Mayans long, long ago, Tulum has become a hot spot for traveling in the past few years, and for good reason. It has a chill, modern boho vibe, sunny weather, delicious food, a up and coming art scene, and it is easy to get to (for North American’s, at least). One of the gems you can find in Tulum is located right along the coast and is called Azulik. This adult-only resort boasts some of the coolest architecture around- the villas are built out of natural materials and are reminiscent of treehouses. They limit the electricity in the villas, so as to create a place you can relax and get away from it all.

Xel Ha

Xel Ha is a must-do activity when you’re in Tulum. It is essentially a natural water park and is fun as a couple or for the whole fam. Here you can go snorkeling, enjoy a lazy river, swim in a cave, cliff jump, swim in cenotes and more, all while taking in the beauty of the Rivera Maya! A bit further away is their sister park Xcaret- another place for a fun packed day!

Gran Cenote

What is a cenote- you might be asking? It is a pit created by collapsed limestone, and is filled with underground water that has now been exposed. The Gran Cenote is a bit of a tourist spectacle now, and there is an admission fee with the opportunity to rent snorkel equipment as well. There are multiple cenotes at it’s location to enjoy!

Tulum Archaeological Site

Get a taste of history and take in a breathtaking view of one of the most photographic spots in the area. Visit the ruins in Tulum, with these cliffside structures once serving as a fortress on the sea. The adjacent beach is boasted to be one of the prettiest in the area, so bring your swimsuit and take a dip while you’re there.

Chitzen Itza

Considered one of the “new” seven wonders of the world and definitely a tourist hub, Chitzen Itza is a day trip that you should take a chance on if seeing world wonders is your thing, or if you’re a history buff. This ancient city played an important role for the Mayans, and is quite a spectacular site (and sight).

Art With Me

Tulum has a budding art scene, and Art With Me is here to prove it. Art With Me is a festival supporting international and local artists, where they “host a collection of experiences that highlight artistic innovations across a variety of platforms…culinary, visual, cultural and experiential, all to draw attention to the  environmental issues that affect us locally and globally”

Aztec Villa

“Located in the southern area of AZULIK Tulum, they are ideal for travelers who wish to experience the rejuvenating atmosphere of the elements. Their wooden deck is ideal for observing the jungle and the ocean. Their indoor and outdoor living spaces are places for rest and relaxation imbued with the magic of the jungle”.

Jungle Villa

“Located close to the House of Ancestral Medicine, the Mayan Spa and IKAL, our beauty sanctuary, it is equipped with extra-large bed and a wooden terrace with an outdoor tub”.

Mayan Villa

“The Mayan Villas offer a gorgeous view of the jungle that grows around them. Their wooden terrace is perfect for coexisting with nature while enjoying the outdoor hot tub”.

Aqua Villa

“Located in the most private area in AZULIK Tulum, its unforgettable decoration with indoor waterways, bejuco floors, elevated round bed and geometrical mirrors inspires all of its visitors. Take your shoes off and climb onto the resting net that faces the ocean. Explore the path that leads to a private terrace with an artisanal sea-facing hot tub, and lie down to receive the energy that comes from the east over the magnificence of the Caribbean Sea.”

Sea Villa

“Located right where the waves touch the coast, Sea Villas are the perfect spot to build intimate bonds with of nature. Their spectacular closeness and connection with the ocean make them one of the most iconic spots in AZULIK Tulum”.

Sky Villa

“Staying in one of the Sky Villas is an unforgettable experience. Standing gracefully on a cliff that faces the ocean of AZULIK Tulum, they were dreamed up for lovers of the sea who wish to contemplate its infinite beauty.Wake up to the rising sun over the Caribbean Sea, catch the healing power of the ocean wind as you relax on the hanging bed, and watch the stars from your private terrace as they appear to illuminate the night. Located on the second floor of our wooden ocean-front building, these villas are the definition of a getaway in complete communion with nature”.

Moon Villa

“Each one of its levels displays a new magical setting: a dreamlike chamber with an elegant round bed, a spherical sanctuary with translucent walls and a stone waterfall, and a private deck meant for rest while you contemplate the ocean, to name a few.

Kin Toh

Kin Toh is the creme de la creme of restaurants at Azulik. It is hyper fusion- with influence from native dishes and international fare. Ingredients are local and the flavors will amaze your senses.

Like the rest of Azulik’s architectural design- Nest is their treehouse restaurant. Dine above the treetops in your own private nest and sip on a bottle of wine from their expansive collection.

Eater has put together a list of their top picks for restaurants in the area. It includes small local spots and high end restaurants with world class cuisine. Read through to find your next meal in Tulum.

Matcha Mama

This cute roadside matcha and smoothie bar is the perfect place to grab some quick delicious and healthy fuel for your day! Matcha Mama has also got the cutest place to snap a quick instagram, so keep that in mind when you’re going.

Fly into Cancun International Airport. There is also an airport on Cozumel, but that is also an island and it won’t be as straightforward to get to the mainland where Tulum is.

Giraffe Manor

You’ve probably seen photos of these gentle giants peeking into hotel windows and sticking their big blue tongues out for a treat. Giraffe Manor is a wildly popular destination, and for good reason. Giraffe Manor is one of four properties by 4th generation Kenyans, Tanya and Mikey Carr-Hartley. The manor, located just outside of Nairobi, upholds a high standard of environmental and sustainable practices for conservation efforts in East Africa.

Breakfast with Giraffes

This is a can’t-miss opportunity during your stay at Giraffe Manor. Reservations are required and are only available to overnight guests of the manor. Enjoy your morning fuel with giraffes poking in to say hello, and to grab a dried grass pellet treat.

Giraffe Center

The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife is a quick stroll across the front lawn. This center plays an important part in the conservation of the endangered Rothschild giraffe, which is the species at Giraffe Manor. The center plays a big part in educating schoolchildren and the public about Kenya’s wildlife and environment. You can get up close and personal, and feed the giraffes here.

Nairobi National Park

When in Africa, go on a safari! Take a visit to Nairobi National Park. While it is technically within city limits, feels like you are worlds away. Come here to catch glimpse of a diverse set of wildlife, such as lions, zebra, buffalo, loooots of species of birds, antelope, and more!

You might not think of it as something you would go to Africa to do- but horse riding through the Dagoretti forest is a must do activity for some awe-inspiring views. Book your ride with Malo Stables, here.

Shopping from Local Artisans

Go into town to visit souvenir markets where you can find locally crafted pieces. You’ll find beautiful pieces from carvings, jewelry, leather goods, and more that are each carefully crafted and one of a kind.

Your stay at Giraffe Manor is going to be an intimate one- it is not a large resort, rather a cozy stay with six rooms in the main house and six more rooms in the garden manor. The manor has been restored, but maintains it’s 1930’s charm.

Glass Igloos
The glass igloos are the main attraction at Kakslauttanen. View the starry night skies (and hopefully the northern lights!) from the comfort of bed in a heated glass igloo. In two-person igloos, toilets are located in the igloo but showers and saunas are in nearby buildings. In four-person igloos, both toilet and shower are present. You can book your stay in one of these from August 24th until the end of April!

Kelo-Glass Igloos
These kel0-glass igloos are a combined log cabin and glass igloo. They sleep up to six people and come with amenities such as a sauna, fireplace, kitchenette, and bedroom.

Log Chalets
Cozy up in one of the log chalets at Kakslauttanen, which sleep 1-10 people and come with their own sauna. These chalets are made from kelo pines, which is a material exclusive to Lapland. The kelo pines are pinewood trees that have grown exceptionally slow due to the cold Arctic temperatures, and this causes an especially high timber density and are resistant to many environmental changes.

Snow Igloo
Forget the glass igloo- spend a night in an actual snow igloo!

Traditional House
Calling all history buffs: this is a chance to stay in a piece of Finnish war history. (Read more about the Traditional House’s history, here). This historic cabin is fully restored, sleeps two and has its own sauna.

Gold Digger’s Chalets
Stay down by the river in one of Kakslauttanen’s Gold Digger Chalets. It’s a bit further from the restaurant and activity sites than some of the other lodging accommodations, but there is a kick sled that will quickly get you to your destination.

Fogo Island Inn

On the other side of the Hamilton Sound off the coast of Newfoundland is Fogo Island. Fogo Island is a small island, with a population of 2,244 people, with history rooted in that of their English and Irish ancestors. For a long time, fishing was the main industry. Slowly, tourism is solidifying it’s place on Fogo Island as well. Fun fact: the Flat Earth Society considers Fogo Island to be one of the four corners of the earth.

Fogo Island Inn is an architectural beauty to look at. Designed by Newfoundlander Todd Saunders, the 29-room inn sits upon a rocky outcrop right on the coast. Many buildings on Fogo Island are on stilts due to the rocky landscape, and Saunders paid homage to this by placing two levels of guest rooms atop a set of stilts which contributes to the inn’s breathtakingly unique appearance.

With a self-declared seven seasons, there is no wrong time to visit Fogo Island. Spring, Trap Berth, Summer, Berry, Late Fall, Winter, and Pack Ice comprise the year, and there is no shortage of activities even on the coldest of days.

  • Snowmobiling
  • Snowshoeing
  • Art workshops
  • Boat Building
  • Guided Walks
  • Traditional Boil-Up
  • Music Festivals
  • Stargazing
  • Change Islands
  • Ice Skating
  • Caribou Watching
  • Seal Watching
  • Marine Encounters
  • Swimming
  • Geology Hikes
  • Seabird Watching
  • Harbor Rowing
  • Bicycling
  • Museums
  • Berry Picking
  • Hiking

The seven seasons also heavily contribute to your dining experience at the Fogo Island Inn- with the availability of local ingredients constantly changing.

“The Inn’s culinary team uses ingredients dictated by Fogo Island’s still-wild world to create dishes that are grounded in this place. Changing daily and
with our seven seasons, the dining menu reflects the region: perched in the Labrador current, our subarctic landscape is bounded on all sides by the
rich North Atlantic. Ingredients that most often find their way onto guests’ plates are those that are fished, farmed, and foraged right here: scallops
with parsnips and rhubarb jelly, salt cod and shaved turnip, roasted cabbage and bakeapples.”
{Fogo Island Inn}

50 Best, an online resource for top food and drink around the world states the dining experience at Fogo Island Inn as such:

“A rocky outcrop, more suited to seals than humans, is the setting for this destination restaurant, located in the Fogo Island Inn. Look out for
icebergs and sea birds on the horizon as you feast on contemporary plates representing Fogo Island’s subarctic setting in the Labrador Current.
Jonathan Gushue’s menus change daily but are always rooted in what’s fished, farmed and foraged locally. Snow crab imaginatively served with vanilla
and apples sits alongside roast caribou, while in winter you can expect the likes of marinated halibut with bakeapples (also known as cloudberries).”

{The World’s 50 Best]

Beautiful House In Nature’s Paradise

Entire guesthouse hosted by Jeannine | Ilhabela, São Paulo, Brazil

6 guests · 2 bedrooms · 5 beds · 2.5 baths

What People Are Saying

I can’t express enough how great this experience was. Jeannine and Colin are more than the average AirBNB superhost. They were so great as local guides for us telling us about all the best places to go on the island and being so attentive to our needs during the stay. She even booked a tour for us of all the best beaches on the Island. We would definitely stay here again if we ever came back to Ilhabela. They both speak Portuguese English and German very well.

If you are into tropical luxury and a great level of hospitality this is the place to stay at Ilhabela! Jeannine and her husband are very friendly people who makes their guests feel like home! The house and the features are very thought out and have everything you need! No room for improvements, everything was perfect!

Unique place!!! There is not really a way to desribe this place…you have to see it with your own eyes 🙂 The property is very big…there is actually a river going to your backyard, where you can swimm in your own private waterfalls. In addition to that there are small pools all over the place, where you can go down the slides and a game room, where you can play billiard, table soccer and more. If you feel like it, you can also hike in the private rainforest that belongs to this place. And if this is not enough you will have some very kind hosts supporting you with everything you need to enjoy this place.

Location, location, Location…..the pictures don’t make justice to this wonderful place! Everything was above our expectations…the communications with the host before & during the trip, the couple who looks after the house were friendly and helpful, the house was sparking clean every day. On a personal note, the house has such a good vibe that makes everyone relax and just enjoy the wonderful views.

Amazing…This word describe’s the house as it should be described. Awesome bedrooms and bathrooms, really big play room with ping pong, snooker, ruge tv…I recomend this house to anyone who wants to spend a nice vacation in a place that you really will not want to leave at the end of the trip. Thanks for everything Gaston. A perfect house with a perfect host.

Amazing is probably the word that best describes our stay at Gaston’s home in Bariloche. The home is everything you see in the pictures and more. Every morning we would spend a long time at the dinning room soaking in the lake and mountain vistas, and in the evenings spent hours in the spacious family/game room. We also enjoyed the great work from the house/grounds keepers who made our stay super enjoyable and comfortable. We really felt like this was home away from home. Dealing with Gaston was really easy and he was always attentive and responsive.
